Batang Kali landslide: Education Ministry to provide counselling for victims' next of kin

SUNGAI BULOH: Counsellors to comfort and support relatives of Batang Kali landslide victims are on standby around the clock, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said that the ministry had stationed three counsellors per shift at the Sungai Buloh Hospital to provide psychosocial first aid to the victims’ next of kin.

"We have three shifts per day and they will be here as long as needed.

"We are also working with the Health Ministry’s Mental Health and Psychiatry Unit to help the families in any way," she said after visiting with victims’ families at the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensic Department.

Several teachers from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Mun Choong were involved in the landslide incident in Batang Kali, Selangor.

"The identification process is still ongoing so I am unable to give out any details," Fadhlina said.

She reiterated the need to give relatives time and space to patiently go through the process of identifying the bodies.
